Classrooms Full of Hope

In Haiti, meager finances prevent parents from enrolling their children in school. The generosity of the Haitian Timoun Foundation community helps eliminate the financial barriers that prevent children from being enrolled in school. Each year, the first day of school is a celebration not just for students, parents and teachers, but also the HTF community!

We believe that generational change begins with Haiti’s youngest people, and an education is a vital part of that change. To invest in a brighter future for the children of Haiti, we work with seven local, on-the-ground partners. Each of these partners is embedded in impoverished communities and committed to empowering Haitian individuals and families.

First Day of School

Lekol Sen Trinite (LST) is a Montessori primary school serving more than 200 students from kindergarten through ninth grade in Jacmel, Haiti. Students are provided with uniforms, supplies and a state-of-the-art computer lab. They also receive daily meals, art programs and after-school activities.

In Haiti, only 85% of kindergarten-aged students are enrolled in their first year of school. We’re grateful that the inspired staff at LST invest in children and ensure they have what they need for their minds, bodies and spirits grow strong. This is made possible by the generosity of our Child Sponsors, who are committed to nourishing hope among Haiti’s youth.

Despite the obstacles students must overcome, all of LST’s 2024-2025 graduates passed their governmental exam this summer. They are headed to high school this fall! We’re eager to see what this year’s LST students are able to achieve. Enjoy the photos below of LST’s first day of school.

Backpacks, Books & Bright Futures

Living Faith provides scholarships to high school students in Haiti. What started with one student’s dream to continue his education despite his family’s inability to pay for it is now 28 students attending high school in Jacmel. Fewer than 19% of students in Haiti complete primary school, meaning even fewer begin high school.

Not only are students provided a scholarship to attend school, but they also receive school supplies, including backpacks, and emotional support to pursue their secondary education. HTF’s In-Country Director, Luckner “Maya” Fond-Rose, provides direction and mentorship to the Living Faith students. His vision and encouragement as the students face obstacles, big and small, sustains and guides them.

Many of the Living Faith students will be the first in their family to graduate high school. They believe in the power of education, and are committed to achieving their dreams.

Bright Futures Under Construction at CEI

Centre d'Education Integree (CEI) is a school and community center perched in the mountainous and remote La Montagne region of Haiti. Located within the community, CEI makes education accessible to students who otherwise would need to trek up and down the mountain each day to attend school.

This year's Hoops for Haiti competition benefitted CEI. Due to the political instability and gang violence concentrated in Port au Prince, families have fled to Jacmel and the surrounded areas, including La Montagne. The schools in the area have not been able to accommodate the additional students.

Due to the generosity of the 6 participating congregations and individual donors, over $67,000 was raised to expand the school. These three classrooms will provide space for up to 100 children to attend school. The classrooms are not the only thing under construction at CEI. Students are unlocking their dreams and preparing for a future of hope.

Pazapa Students HEAD to school with confidence

Pazapa supports the treatment, education, and development of children who are differently-abled. The school also guides their families and promotes acceptance within their communities. The inspired staff at Pazapa sees each child as  wonderfully made with unique gifts to offer to the world despite the ways they could be marginalized by society.

Our Congregational Partners support Pazapa through Resurrection Projects, which invite individuals to sponsor a student financially and prayerfully. Our Pazapa Child Sponsors unlock dreams, help children live into their God-given dignity, and provide hope in Haiti.

The smiles on children’s faces across the different school programs are what hope in action looks like. We’re only able to do this vital, transformative work because of the generosity of the HTF community.

The Child Sponsorship program plays a vital role in the mission of generational change for our Haitian brothers and sisters. To learn more about becoming a Child Sponsor, visit Child Sponsorship or email info@htflive.org.
